Executive Education

The Newhouse School has been a pioneer in public relations (PR) education since 1995. Our executive education program, which awards a master's degree in communications management, has filled the continuing education gap for PR professionals. The program's rigid standards offer a challenging course of study to the profession's best and brightest, and the flexible curriculum fits into their professional and personal lifestyles.

In the 1960s, Syracuse University created a new educational model, known as the independent study degree program (ISDP). In the communications management model, students spend some time on campus at the beginning of their coursework. They then return to where they live and work and continue independent, online studies. They come back together two more times over the course of two years. Communications management graduates say that without this flexibility, they would not have been able to earn a master's degree.

While there are other ISDP programs which are interdisciplinary within one school, the communications management program is unique in that it is the first interdisciplinary program across three SU schools: the Newhouse School, the Martin J. Whitman School of Management and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
