Claire Galofaro G'07 wins prestigious Livingston Award for "Surviving Appalachia" series

Claire Galofaro G'07, a reporter with the Associated Press, was awarded the prestigious Livingston Award for Local Reporting. Winners receive a $10,000 prize, and were announced on June 6.

The winning series, "Surviving Appalachia," is about the devastating economic and social realities of everyday life in rural America, contributing to drug overdose, susceptibility to fraud, and the rise of Donald Trump.

The award is designed to showcase and appreciate young talent, singling out the best work done by journalists under the age of 35. Galofaro is a graduate of the magazine, newspaper and online journalism graduate program here at Newhouse.
